Beauty Of Honduras

We walked into the outdoor courtyard of a little pizza place on Wednesday afternoon and sat down for our meal... and out of the corner of my eye, I saw her. Something about her face, her eyes, reminded me of Jesus. Such a humble, kind and gentle spirit about her... the woman I'll never forget.

I kept glancing at her, making eye contact, and smiling, I couldn't get her off of my mind. She was tired, and kept nodding off in her chair, barely 20 feet away from where I was sitting. She kept smiling at me when I looked at her. Her face, her eyes, still reminding me of Jesus.

Pointing to my camera, and pointing to her, without words I asked her if I could have the honor of taking her photo. She broke into a gentle grin and nodded, so I raised my camera and took two. I knew it would be my favorite photos from that day. The Copan Ruins do not compare to the beauty of this woman... The woman who reminded me of Jesus.

I went over to her, showed her the photo, and told her how beautiful she was to me. She took my hand and squeezed it, and told me "God bless you." I offered her a little bit of money for the permission to take her photo, and she gratefully accepted.

Throughout the meal, I kept glancing at her, such beauty.... so many stories she could tell, I'm sure. I wish I had known her language, I would have loved to talk to her for a while.

Later that day, walking through the city on our way to the shopping areas, I saw her again, the beautiful woman. This time, I couldn't resist. I walked to her and extended my arms for a hug. As I had my arms wrapped around her, she put her hand up over my heart, and patted my heart and told me this time "God is blessing you." At least, that's what I understood of what she was trying to say. I told her "God bless", and told her once again how beautiful she was. I gave her a kiss on the forehead, and hugged her once more before walking away.

I will never forget her... the woman who reminded me of Jesus.

The beauty of Honduras is in its people.

When I shared your post on Facebook, I had to decode 2 words so they would know I was not a machine. The 2 words:said dazzling. How appropriate. You were talking about the pure beauty of that woman. One of my wishes is to learn Spanish and the time has come: this Fall, I am learning a 3rd language. And I have the perfect companion: you. Next time you go on a trip to Honduras, you will be able to comprehend what you hear and express yourself as you speak. You'll be able to add that to your talent for seeing the beauty, for translating what you see into principles, truths, soul's journey, emotions... finding the universal truth in the moment you capture ... You will just be more and more God's instrument of Love, Peace, Mercy, Grace. I love you. Mom
